Albany budgeted $4M for the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission (NYIRC) to do its job. In January 2022, it failed. Supreme Court Justice Patrick McAllister appointed a “neutral expert” on April 18, 2022. Dr. Jonathan Cervas was hired at a cost not to exceed $90,000 (for Congressional lines). Per his schedule, maps were to be issued by May 24, 2022. It was done on May 16, 2022.

Dr. Cervas’ final bill was submitted and approved on June 2, 2022. Meanwhile, the New York State Redistricting Commission continues to run down its budget without a single press release nor meeting since January 2022.
