State Senate introduced bill S8949 on April 29 that would allow a candidate on the ballot be removed who has either been arrested OR charged OR convicted. The American jurisprudence of “innocent until proven guilty” has been watered down.
If a candidate got “arrested” or “charged” during protest or domestic violence, he or she could now be tossed off the ballot within a few days. Democrats have introduced a new political strategy to get rid of front runners on the ballot!
Update: On May 2, Senate 33-29; Assembly 82-57; Governor Kathy Hochul signed it into law the same day! Less than 24 hours from introduction to law, not counting Saturday and Sunday.
In about 12 hours, his replacement, Rep. Antonio Delgado, was announced.
